Site Update - From Shawn

We are swiftly approaching our third birthday celebration. It’s been an awesome ride so far and we are looking forward to more great times ahead. Tammy and I would like to thank all the members for being here with us. Without you, the CuC members, none of this scrappiness would be possible. Most of you are aware by now that our web server company recently had a major hardware issue. The bottom line is that our complete database is gone. No more photo gallery or forum. Over the next few days we will be recreating them both. I know that most of you feel the same way about this site as we do and we are determined not to let this setback hurt for too long! Sometimes life gives you lemons, so we have decided to go out and get a nice cool pitcher of iced tea. This will be our opportunity to overcome and be even better than before. We will be back in full swing very soon. Keep checking the home page and right here for updates. Thank you for your understanding and patience. Shawn

Sketchy Saturday and Inspiraitonal Sunday.. Welcome to challenges on the BLOG

Hi, we are experiencing some technical problems so today I am sharing some fun challenges to play with until we return in the forum.

This amazing sketch is from Tabitha at Let's Get Sketchy and my digital is a sample page using her fabulous sketch... i used a group of photos instead of just one.... surprise us with your interpretation of it.... use the inlinz below to share and them move it to forum when up and running.

For Sunday inspiration here is a double page layout from me.
And the colour inspiration part is to use the colours in the sketch to make a page.
Can't wait to see what you share with us.

Friday Focus~ 4.27.12

Here we are with the sketch for Friday Focus.  Today we are focusing onmaking a unique flower or diecut image that you paper piece together.  You may use punches, quikutz, cricut or any other device.  (even hand cut!  LOL)  I chose to use punches.  I used my heart punch to make the flower in the left hand corner, chalked the edges and wah la...there you have a pretty flower.

The sketch I chose from the internet is from love4colors.com:
and here is what I created with it:

Remember to count for the blue plate special you must create one layout or altered project or 2 cards.
Happy Friday...now get scrapping!!  LOL

Tuesday Technique Sketch

Since we are having some problems with our forum,  I know there are those of you who are wanting some new challenges...so I will post one here on the blog.

Tuesday Technique...Fussy Cutting!!

My friend Lisa loves to fussy cut and I recently have started to really like to do it too.  I never thought I would have the patience for it.  In fact, my other challenge this month required a bit of it too....not much but a little.

Well, today I am challenging you to do even more.  Take some busy paper that you just can’t find a use for and cut out an element or two from it.  In my layout I cut out a ton of flowers.  I curled the edges to make them stand out and added other embellishments to finish them off.  I started with a very basic sketch from Smitha from her blog Smilingcolors.com.

Actually this was only part of a sketch. If you check out her blog, she gives a day by day sketch.  Each day she adds to the previous day’s sketch.  This is where I picked it up so  it looks a bit different
from her final sketch!!

Here is a link to her blog if you would like to see more:

My layout is Be Strong.
I used the March Bo Bunny Alora Kit from Little Red Scrapbook kit club.  I used less matting than the sketch called for as I really wanted the background paper to show.
I hope you get a chance to do this sketch challenge....Have fun with you scissors!!

Good morning!  Rebecca here bringing you Make Up MOnday at Cookin' Up Creations!  Make up Monday for me is like the line up of talent!  We get to see all the creativity from the past week all in one spot and then work on what we might have missed!  This past week has been no exception here at Cookin' Up!  Sketches are one of my favorite things so for me it's been exceptionally sweet.  Here is what you gals have offered up so far this month of sketches:

Our Chef Of The Month (please give her a round of applause please....) started our week of on Tuesday with a sketch from My Creative Scrapbooks.  Jan spiced the challenge up by asking us to change up our Alpha's as she did with her layout of cute little Lacey!

Barb has been busy becoming a grandma to Hamish!  She was quick to share his photo (which served as a birth announcement at her workplace) using a sketch from Pagemaps.  The photo that she had of her sweet grandson was a bit off color due to the low light birthing spot so she fixed it up with a transparency!  Barb challenged us to use the sketch and to recolor the photo we used on it!  Welcome Hamish!

Have you noticed how mustaches are popping up everywhere!  (me especially because I have two young men in my household!  LOL!)  Patti used some on her layout and they fit in so well with those cute little boys in her layout!
The sketch she offered to us http://dscog.blogspot.com/2011/03/sketch-number-3.html from For The Love of Sketches and here is her cute layout!  (Patti also provided an ad for us to get some inspiration from.)

Amy focused on the movie poster Friday the 13th because that's just what the day was!  Friday the 13th!  (She told us she couldn't help herself!)

This whole month we have a different sketch every day but we always get a new one on Saturday no matter what our theme might be here at Cookin' Up.  Jo provided us with a sketch from Becky Fleck and her twist to the challenge was to layer a patterned paper over the photo.  A beautiful girl in a beautiful layout!

Sunday may be called Inspirational Sunday around here but I find inspiration every day of the week here!  Jan provided us with a sample of towel at Pottery Barn to get inspiration for scrapping with this layout from Studio Calico.

So that wraps our past week!  I hope to see some of your work posted at Cookin' UP Creations!

Layout of the Week - Butterfly Kisses by Lisa

First off, I just want to say that it's really, really great to see sooooo many new people uploading creations into the Cookin' up Creations gallery....It's a very exciting thing for me to see, but at the same time, since it's my week to pick the "Layout of the Week" it made it a little difficult! So many deserving creations in the gallery!!

I decided to go with color this week....I wanted to pick a layout in the gallery that just popped "color wise' for me, and this layout by Lisa did just that!

Congratulations Lisa on having the Layout of the Week this week.

Make Up Monday 4/2/2012

This week we wrapped up our Clue game with lots of fun challenges based upon the classic game.
Even though we have a winner in the game, these challenges still count toward the BPS prize drawing for March!!!

On Tuesday, Linda challenged us to a "background check" and to make our own background paper.  She used a stamp to create hers:

On Wednesday, Jeannie brought out her knife and asked us to do the same with some precision cutting... Here are her fancy cricut dolphins:

On Thursday, Sandy reminded us that the solution to the game is hidden...and challenged us to use hidden journaling or an envelop on our layouts....Her journaling is hidden underneath her photo!!
On Friday, Bev asked us to walk around and view the scene...  She asked us to take a busy background paper and add our elements to make the layout complete.

For our Sketchy Saturday, Rebecca used a sketch from Nuts About Sketches as the basis for her layout...and asked us to use one of the weapons from the game of clue on your layout....

And on Sunday, we started our month of Sketches with a sketch and color inspiration from    Girls Just Want to scrapbook   for her layout:

To qualify for the monthly drawing, you must complete 1 layout, 2 cards or 4 ATC's for each entry.

 Have fun this week!!
