Layout of the Week --- 5/29/2013

Good afternoon! This week's Layout of the Week honor goes to JAN!

Who doesn't love a sweet baby picture? Jan was lucky enough to have a photograph of TWO sweet babies, her new twin grand-nieces. The photo, combined with soft colors and Jan's fantastic scrap style, was a sure winner:

Please visit Jan's gallery at Cookin' Up Creations  and leave her some love!

Congratulations, Jan, on LAYOUT OF THE WEEK!

Make Up Monday -- 5/27/2013

Hello! We apologize for the delay in posting Make Up Monday. Our gallery was down yesterday, which meant that none of our photo links would show up. But the gallery's back, and here we are!

This month on the Cookin' Up Creations forum, we've been celebrating the return of warm weather and the anticipation of even more warmer weather, with our Spring Into Summer theme. Here's a look at the challenges for the past week:

On Technique Tuesday, Tamara introduced us to a new way to stamp on our projects -- with the edge of an empty toilet paper roll and paint! Here's her cute example:

On What's New Wednesday, Cassy celebrated spring with a challenge to use rainbow and woodgrain themed products together. Here is her beautiful example:

For Toss Up Thursday, Michelle celebrated longer daylight hours by asking us to use light and dark papers together, with -- you've got it! -- more light than dark. Here is her lovely example:

Friday's Focus came to us from Jo, who asked us to use chipboard elements on our projects. Here is her beautiful example:

Jan brought us a sketch from Liz Chidester (and a photo of her brand new twin grand-nieces -- how special is that!?!?!?) for Sketchy Saturday. Here is her adorable layout featuring those precious baby girls:

Those are the last of the May Blue Plate Special challenges. The deadline for completing all May challenges is June 3, and EACH completed challenge earns you an entry into the Dessert Tray prize drawing.

Stay tuned for a special month-long celebration. Cookin' Up Creations is celebrating our FOURTH birthday with a BIRTHDAY BASH throughout June! There will be a new birthday-themed Blue Plate Special challenge each day, June 1-30 -- including Mondays! There also will be some fun games and other surprises -- and PRIZES! This celebration has been a year in the making -- you won't want to miss it!

Make Up Monday -- 05/20/2013

Good morning! It's another Make Up Monday at Cookin' Up Creations . We've been celebrating "Spring Into Summer" on the forum with our challenges. There's still time to play!

Here's a recap of last week's Blue Plate Special challenges:

On Technique Tuesday, in honor of the weather being kissed by the sun (at last!) Cassy shared an embossing/ink stamp "kissing" technique for us to try. She provided a tutorial link and these cute examples:

On What's New Wednesday, Michelle spring-cleaned her stash and found buttons -- lots of buttons. She challenged us to use at least 9 buttons on our project. Here are the two fun cards she made:

Next, it was Toss Up Thursday with Jo. She challenged us to "brush up" on our projects by using paint on the edges and by hand or die cutting our own title. Here is her lovely example:

On Focus Friday, Jan noticed that we're all pulling out our bright-colored and patterned t's and capris now that warm weather is here. She challenged us to mix it up by using at least three different patterned papers from three different manufacturers on our projects. Here's her beautiful layout:

For Sketchy Saturday, Annie did some spring cleaning and challenged us to use our scraps of paper and bits of washi, leftover embellishments and what not. She also used this sketch from PageMaps:

And here's Annie's beautiful layout:

And for Sunday's Inspiration, Barb found inspiration in her favorite flowers, the lilies that are blooming in her home area right now. Her favorites are the pink ones, like these --

She drew from the pinks for her layout and even had a photo of bouquets of -- you guessed it! -- lilies:

There's still time to join in the May challenges. The Master Chef Challenge Team will present new challenges through May 25, and you have until June 3 to finish them. EACH completed challenge earns you ONE chance in the May prize drawing. So come on over and SPRING INTO SUMMER with us!

Annie (me) challenged us to celebrate the trees. You can do this in 1 of 2 ways.

1. By using all the wonderful wood or wood inspired products that are so trendy right now. Woodgrain paper & letters, wood veneers, wood washi, stamps etc.

2. By featuring family members in and amongst the trees.

Here is my sample

Barb challenged us to be inspired by Lilacs For this challenge, she wants you to feature a "lilac color" on your project. You may use any shade of purple, lavender or pink. (White isn't included, Barb feels that's just too easy  ).

Make Up Monday 5/6

Spring into Summer kicked off this week at Cookin Up Creations.  We had a week of great challenges.  Here is a recap of those challenges

What's New Wednesday-5-1/13- Shades of Blue

Annie challenged us to:

For this challenge I would like you to be inspired by the beautiful shades of blue skies we love so much. Shades of Blue are so trendy right now. From the dark Navy to the lightest pale Teal blue.

So for the what's new part of the challenge - Let's look at what is trendy right now - like layers, ombre, journal cards/spots, tags, vellum, stitching (machine/hand), stamping, cameras, cutout (title or backgrounds), even rub-ons (are making a big comeback), misting/droplets, watercolor (with watercolor paints or mists), and flairs.

I would love for you to create a project using shades of BLUE and 1 or more of the What is Trendy mentioned above.

Toss Up Thursday 05/02/2013 -- Paint!

Barb challenged us to:
Today, my challenge is to use paint in some way on your project. If you mix two colors to make a new one, or mix your paint with white to make it lighter or tone it down, so much the better. Get creative -- spray it, fling it from the end of a brush, drip it .... just have fun with it!

Friday Focus 5.3.13 Wire

Tamara challenged us to:
o when I first heard we were going to do Spring, guess what I thought of? Yup an actual Spring and out came the wire. Today we are going to focus on wire. I made my title out of colored wire. Twisted strands of wire together on the strip of pattern paper at the bottom. Then what would the gorilla be without wire springs popping out? Use your creativity and let's see some wire on those projects.

Sketchy Saturday 5-4
Alterdiva challenged us to:
Today's challenge revolves around the change from Spring to Summer. I am re-using (yep I said it) re-using a sketch that I have previously used before. I loved it so much that I re-purposed it! And the challenge involves using a little Spring and a little Summer. I want you to create a layout that involves some elements of both. In my layout, I used a pastel background and patterned papers with a summer photo and summery weather themed chipboard! To re-use the sketch, I simply angled the layout itself! Hope you like!

Sunday Inspiration 5/5
I challenged you to:
I love this time of year...the flowers are blooming and color is everywhere. Mother's Day is fast approaching so I challenge you to be inspired by flowers, color, and mom and create a layout or 2 cards.

Don't forget to upload your creations for a chance to win this month's prize. Be sure to check out this week's new challenges!

Layout of the week 5.1.13

Congrats to Sandy on layout of the week.  This is such a pretty combination of kraft and blue.
