Make up Monday - Wrapping up April

Good Monday morning everyone!  This is the last Make up Monday for April and we are wrapping things up with several clever ways to spice up your projects!

For Technique Tuesday last week, Michelle wanted us to be inspired by topographical maps as she was in this really unique layout!
In What's New Wednesday, Jo took us to Mexico.  She wanted us to use this photograph for inspiration and to use banners on our layouts.
And here is her sample:
And finally to wrap up April in a neat little package, Jan took us to Burano with inspiration from this amazing photo:

And she wants us to use an item that Burano is famous for - lace.  No lace, enhance your layout with a little vellum as she did here:
And that wraps up our monthly challenges for April.  Join us also in May for some Spring themed inspiration!!!

Layout of the Week 04/24/2013

This week I chose this lovely layout by ANNIE C. as the Layout of the Week:

The details that caught my attention were the color combinations, the beautiful wings and heart in her background, and her title work. It all adds up to one fantastic layout!

This is just one of many beautiful layouts by Annie. Please visit her gallery at Cookin' Up Creations and leave her some compliments!

Layout of the Week -- 04/17/2013

I have the pleasure of choosing this week's Layout of the Week, and I've chosen this layout by Cookin' Up Creations newcomer RESA!

I loved her sunny yellow and cool turquoise color combination; her great collection of borders; her use of the circles and her choices of patterned paper. I also liked her arrangement of photos in a film strip style. What a beautiful and eye-catching layout!

Please visit the Cookin' Up Creations gallery to leave Resa some love; and do check out her entire gallery of work. Awesome!

If you haven't checked out our Blue Plate Special challenges already, come on over to the Cookin' Up Creations forum! Our April theme is "Around the World in 30 Days" -- we're finding inspiration in places all over the world. Resa created the layout above for a challenge inspired by the sun, sand and water of the Caribbean island of St. Croix. For every April challenge that you complete, your name goes into the drawing for our April "Dessert Tray" prize. So grab your suitcase, your passport and your traveling shoes, and come on over!

Make Up Monday 4/15/2013

We hope you are enjoying our trip around the world...

This past Tuesday we were challenged to use the technique of using the negative of a diecut by Tammy...and here is her amazing layout!!

On Wednesday, Annie asked us to have fun with the British invasion and use something from Britain as our inspiration...plus use the following elements on our project:
Pop something up (photo(s), lettering, embellishments, etc).
Do some misting or droplets
Use some Washi tape
Use some wood veneers
Hand stitching
Mix Title letters.
Here is her British inspired layout...

On Thursday, Barb took us to Hong Kong and because outdoor dining is very popular in Hong Kong, to use a photo or image that has something to do with eating outside. (It can be a barbecue, your kids eating popsicles on the porch, anything that involves eating outdoors). AND .... Because Hong Kong has a tropical climate,  use colors that remind you of the tropics.
Here is her wonderful layout...

For Friday's Focus, Tamara asked us to use a world on our layout...here is her layout which includes the cutest globe in the title!!

On Saturday, Cassy was inspired by the maps that help us get places...and gave us this sketch to work with...
And didn't she do a great job with it??

And on Sunday, Michelle gave us photos from Bavaria, Germany and asked us to use them as the inspiration for our projects...
Here is her layout featuring a local German town near her...

Keep checking back for more inspiration as we continue our trip around the world...

Bon Voyage!!!

Make Up Monday -- 04/08/2013

We hope you're enjoying "Around the World In 30 Days" with our Blue Plate Specials! Here's a recap of our itinerary so far:

Barb started us off on our journey in beautiful St. Croix. Her challenge was to celebrate the beautiful Caribbean waters and beach with sanding on the edges of our photos or paper and using the colors blue (for the water) and yellow (for the sunshine). Here is her sample layout:

On Wednesday, Tamara celebrated our around the world theme with a challenge to use circles on our projects. Here is her example:

On Thursday, we visited the beautiful Greek isle of Santorini with Cassy. She gave us a photo of the Santorini coastline for inspiration and created this example:

On Friday, Michelle reminded us that "getting there can be half the fun". She challenged us to use photos involving plane, train, auto or boat travel. Here is her example:

On Saturday, Jan provided us with a "road map", or sketch by which to navigate our project. Here is the layout that Jan created:

And on Sunday, we traveled to Luxembourg with Jo. She asked us to use the colors of the nation's flag (red, white and belgian blue) as inspiration. Here is her example:

Our around-the-world journey continues throughout April on the Cookin' Up Creations forum. There's still plenty of time to join us! The deadline for finishing the April challenges is May 1; and there's a new challenge each day, Tuesday through Sunday, through April 26. LOTW -- 04/03/2013

Today's LOTW isn't a layout at all .... it's an adorable paper project by BETH CAMP. In response to a Blue Plate Special tutorial and challenge, she created this bunny Easter basket:

As soon as I saw this basket in the gallery and the challenge thread, it made me smile. I love the way Beth used the scalloped shapes to create the bunny features; the happy face; and those googly eyes. Please go to the Cookin' Up Creations gallery and leave Beth some much-deserved love!

Need some inspiration? Come on over to the Cookin' Up Creations forum and join us for the daily Blue Plate Specials -- a new challenge each day through the 25th of the month! This month's theme is "Around the World in 30 Days". Each completed challenge gains you one entry into the monthly prize drawing. Everyone can play!

Make Up Monday -- 04/01/2013

Happy April!!!!!!!

Our March daily challenges ended on Sunday, March 24, but we did bring you an Hors d'ouevres Tray challenge on Tuesday -- our monthly Scraplift a Member challenge! In March, each Master Chef Challenge Team member chose a layout by another forum member that she would like to lift. The results were fantastic, as usual.

Here's one example:

Cassy's scraplift:
I chose to scraplift Annie'slayout for this challenge.  I loved the stitched background and I filled my bowling pin with gesso.  I also loved her layers and title.

And here is mine!

What's up for April? Well, pack your bags and grab your boarding passes! Starting tomorrow, April 2, we'll be going "Around the World in 30 Days"!

Be sure to join in the fun with daily challenges, and perhaps a surprise or two, on the Cookin' Up Creations Forum
