Layout of the week 12/28/2011

For the layout of the week I chose this wonderful Christmas Layout by Barb P.
I love the papers used, the picture is precious and the journaling is super. The layout is clean and festive and love the little tag in the corner. Great job Barb.

Make Up Monday December 19, 2011

Are you ready for Christmas yet? We're definitely in the spirit on the Cookin' Up Scrapbook Creations forum! All of our Blue Plate Special challenges can be adapted to holiday scrapping, card making or gift giving, and many of our Master Chef Challenge Team and forum members are doing just that!

We've been revisiting challenges from throughout 2011 this month and putting our own "twist" on there. Here's a recap of the past week's challenges:

Last Tuesday, Nicole challenged us to use some type of mesh -- scrapping mesh, dry wall tape, an onion bag, anything we could find -- and gave us this example:

On Wednesday, Tamara brought us a challenge to use hat pins. Here's her layout:

Bev's Thursday challenge gave us flowers and bling! Here is her example:

On Friday, Jan focused on distressing and shared her layout:

Amy brought us the Saturday sketch and this example:

On Sunday, Tamara brought us a challenge to use banners OTHER than the traditional triangle shape; she used hearts:

And this past week, we had TWO Hors d'ouevres Tray challenges! The first was from our December Chef of the Month, Rebecca. She challenged us to decorate a purchased ornament, and gave us these examples:

And just a few minutes ago, the Master Chef Challenge Team posted the December "Scraplift a Member" challenge. We scraplifted this beautiful layout by forum member Melody Miller:

These are just one week of our Blue Plate Special challenges -- there is a new one each day except Monday (and occasionally on Monday too!) A layout, two cards or another project will count for each challenge.

If you complete 15 or more of the December challenges by January 3, your name will go into the drawing for the Dessert Tray prize -- and this month it's a gift certificate generously provided by our friends at Scraptastic Club -- check out their amazing kits!

And please be sure to join us on the Cookin' Up Creations forum every day for conversation, scrapping, challenges and friendship!

Have a great countdown-to-Christmas week!

Who can resist Donald Duck?  Not me, that's for sure! I was immediately drawn to the bright colors in Michelle's layout as well as the playful feel that the frame adds.  Fun, fun, fun!

Congratulations on Layout of the Week Michelle!!!

Make-Up Monday 12/12/11

What another fabulous week of challenges we have had here at CUC!  Don’t you just love having a second chance at completing a challenge that you so very much wanted to do the first time, but you just didn’t have the time to do it?   This month we are giving you the chance to do just that as we revisit some of the wonderful challenges for this past year…

On Tuesday Tamara revisited a challenge originally posted by Jo that challenged us to use paint on our project.  Tamara shared two fantastic Christmas cards with us that she used paint on:

Wednesday,  Bev went back to Cassy’s “Sew Cute” challenge and challenges us to sew on our project.  Bev shared her stunning LO with stitching on it:

Thursday rolled around and Barb brought back Jan’s “War of the Roses” challenge in which we are shown how to create border strip rosettes.  Barb created an elegant Tim inspired tag for her example:

On Friday Jo brought back Karen’s beading challenge.  Jo challenges us to use any size, and style of bead on our project and she definitely inspired us with her stunning LO:

Saturday is personally my favorite Challenge day because it’s sketch day.  This week Jan brought back a sketch from Creative Scrappers that was originally posted as a challenge here at CUC by Tammy.  Jan’s LO really pops and really makes me want to find the time to use this sketch!

Our final challenge this past week came on Sunday and was posted by Barb.  She choose my art inspired challenge that was posted to be inspired by one of four paintings I had chosen.  You can see the painting here in this thread: INSPIRATIONAL SUNDAY 12/11/11

Barb created these cute Christmas cards to show how she was inspired by the art work:

We hope that you all are enjoying revisiting some of our favorite challenges from the past year.  And we can’t wait to see what you all create while be inspired by the DT and their takes on the challenges.  Don’t forget to upload your projects into the CUC gallery and link them to the appropriate thread for it to count towards your entry into the monthly prize drawing!

Congrats to Beth Camp for Project of the Week. It is just too cute and perfect this time of the year when we celebrate xmas. Reindeer that are just too cute, the tiny bird is amazing and the tag finish them off. And who wouldn't love a touch of candy for a treat. I know my grandkids would love these. Happy Holiday

Make-Up Monday Dec. 5

Well, this past week we ended out the month of November & all our food related challenges & we began December where we're revisiting some of our Favorite challenges from the past months. So, here's your recap:

Tues. 11/29--For today's challenge, we are celebrating the chicken by including a bird on our layout (on the patterned paper, embellishment or photo). To celebrate that lovely browned skin, we will distress the edges of at least one of our papers.

Wed. 11/30--My what's new this Wednesday is WATERCOLOR!!! I spied on someone's blog awhile back (can't remember who right now) a layout where the scrapbooker used watercolor paint to add color to her page and I really liked the look. So I dusted off my cheap watercolor set that I've had forever and gave it a go and here's what I came up with.

Thurs. 12/1--This month we are making the challenges super easy on you by choosing some of our favorites from this past year. One of my favorite challenges that was posted on Thursday (way back when it was called transformation Thursday) was the altered toilet paper roll gift card holder. It was posted on January 27th. You can see the original post HERE and here is what Cassy had to say about it:

For this weeks TTh, I was reminded of how much everyone loved the gift card holders that I made for birthday gifts etc. a few years ago and since it was so simple to do, I thought that I would share this idea with you today. A tp roll is perfect for holding a gift card. It is exactly the right size and all you have to do is flatten the toilet paper roll, cover it with pp, I like to trim the edges with some deco-edge scissors, and then embellish to your hearts content. I like to crease the edges with a bone folder to finish everything off. You can add a tag to attach the card to or just slip it in the gap.

So now here is my take on this challenge:
Fri. 12/2--Todays Challenge was originally created by Barb! Just like Barb... I love all the fun birds that are in so many of the scrapbook products. So your challenge is to use a bird on your project!
Here is my example...

Sat. 12/3--I have to be honest and admit that Sketchy Saturday is my all time favorite challenges that we post here at CUC. There are not a whole lot of them that I miss. And when I do, it's because I have a lot going on at the time and just can't seem to find the time to do them. So when I found out what the theme for this month was I was so excited because it meant I would get to go back and doTHIS FABULOUS SKETCH CHALLENGE that was posted by Jo way back on my wedding anniversary, May 28th:

I love Liz Chidester's sketches. But sadly never got around to completing this one when it was first posted. So I finally had my chance to get it done. Here is my take on the sketch:

Sun. 12/4--One of my favorite inspirational Sundays came from Tamara. She found this sketch/layout and loved all the white space it had...that it focused on the "Main Dish"

and she made the following (very cute) layout...

So my challenge to you is to scraplift this layout and see what you can come up with....if you want to go the thread and see what everyone else came up with...it is here:

http://cookinupcreations.com/phpBB3/vie ... 111&t=6230

I will be posting my example later today.....

Enjoy your main dish and remember...1 layout or 2 cards will put an entry into the monthly drawing for that $20 gift card!!!
