LOTW -- 10/310/2012
Good morning! As soon as I headed into the Gallery this morning, I saw this lovely layout by MELODY MILLER:
I love that big scalloped circle, the torn paper and the unique stitching around the scallops' edge. The pink also is an eye-catcher. Great job, Melody!
Please go to our Gallery and leave Melody some love here.

Make up Monday 10/29/12
Charlie: Excuse me, Lieutenant. Is there something wrong?
Maverick: Yes ma’am, the data on the MiG is inaccurate.
Charlie: How’s that, Lieutenant?
Maverick: Well, I just happened to see a MiG 28 do a…
Goose: We!
Maverick: Uh, sorry Goose. WE happened to see a MiG 28 do a 4g negative dive.
Charlie: Where did you see this?
Maverick: Uh, that’s classified.
Charlie: It’s what?
Maverick: It’s classified. I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you.
Ahhhh . . . one of my favorite 80's quotes of all time. I use this when my students want me to give them the correct answer on a quiz or test. They don't find it as funny as I do!
Happy rainy Monday to many! Best wishes to all affected or soon to be affected by the upcoming storm!!! We have some amazing 80's challenges here to share with you today. So sit back and scrap!
Today's Make up Monday begins with Lisa's challenge to try an Acid Wash Jeans technique with some bleach on your background. Who didn't own a pair of these? Here is her sample:
For Focus Friday, Tamara focused on the Big Hair with Big Punches (or large scalloped paper.) Check out her example:
Sketchy Saturday looked like this sketch from Nuts About Sketches:
And Barb challenged us to be inspired by the grunge bands and use some distressing techniques like she did in this layout:
And finally we wrapped up the list this week with Sunday Inspiration from Michelle. She encouraged us to be inspired by an 80's movie as she was from (yes one of my fav's) - Top Gun
and Day's of Thunder:
I hope you enjoy the last week of our 80's inspiration!

In What's New Wednesday, Sandy challenged us to mix the old and new (To
complete this challenge you must mix at least 2 manufacturers patterned
paper (and no, your cardstock does NOT count) as well as use
embellishments from at least 2 different manufacturers. You must also
mix old patterned paper (preferably at least a year old, but if you
don't have any that old then the oldest you can find that is at least 6
months old) with the newer ones) like the song We Are the World did. Now if you haven't checked out the newer version of this song which benefited the Haiti Relief program, then you are missing out. Check it out on Itunes. I LOVE it!!!
For Toss-up Thursday, Annette inspired us with Rainbow Brite. You must use at least three colors from the rainbow as she did here. For Focus Friday, Tamara focused on the Big Hair with Big Punches (or large scalloped paper.) Check out her example:

Make-Up Monday 10/15/12
Happy Monday everyone. I hope that you all have been able to rest up this past weekend and are ready to face a new week. I know most people don't enjoy Mondays, however, the way I look at it is it's a fresh start and I can choose to make the best of it, or let the dread of Monday start the week off in a gloomy mood. Plus, it's a refresher day here at Cookin' Up Creations and we get the day to catch up on some challenges we may not have had the time to complete yet. So without further ado, let's get started...
On Tuesday the 9th, Tamara challenged us to revisit the 80's TV Show Trapper John, MD by using Burlap is some way on our project. She couldn't find any burlap in her stash so she even created her own. It looked so Awesome I couldn't even tell it was homemade burlap. Doesn't her Burlap look awesome:
Moving on to What's new Wednesday for 10/10/12, Michelle brought us back to those wonderful charms that were so popular in the 80's. I myself remember having a shirt that had this charms hanging around the front neckline of them. It was on of my favorites. On Wednesday she challenged us to pull out some charms and use them on our project. She shared with us two fantastic cards she had made using charms:
For Toss-Up Thursday, Cassy brought us back to those popular 80's phrases like totally, rad and gnarly and challenges us to use an 80's term in a thought bubble. She did an amazing job on her inspiration layout and turned the negative cutout of the word into her thought bubble. Very Clever indeed!
Heading into the start of the weekend, on Friday, Jo shifts the focus onto Concert T-Shirts. She pointed out that most of the concert t-shirts from the 80's were black. So she challenges us to use use a black background on our projects for this challenge. Here is here layout, which really pops on that black background:
Ah, Finally we reach Saturday. And it's my favorite challenge of the week...the sketch challenge. This week, Annie presented us with this great sketch from Creative Scrappers:
And challenges us to use the sketch, as well as layering. However she is giving away a small prize as a bonus. All you have to do to have a chance at that prize is to make one of your layers textured and use bright or neon colors on your layout.
Because of a sick furbaby, she didn't get to share her layout with us yet, but she should be getting it uploaded over in the post for this challenge soon so make sure you check back there to see her inspiration piece.
And now for Sunday. This week, Barb takes us back to that ever so popular phone number, 867-5309, that belonged to some girl named Jenny. And that is where we are to find our inspiration this week. Barb challenges us to use numbers somewhere, somehow on our project. Whether we choose to use stickers, patterned paper, or embellishments with numbers on it, she wants to see numbers somewhere. Here is Barb's always fabulous layout:
Now that you have been reminded of the great challenges this week, I hope you can find sometime today to work on all those missed challenges. And remember that you have through November 3rd to get your things uploaded and linked back in the appropriate threads for them to count.

Make Up Monday 10/8/2012
We started our new theme for October, "It's the '80's .... like, totally!) last Monday and have had a blast so far!
Here's what we have been doing:
On Tuesday, we celebrated the popular '80's sitcom -- and Jack Tanner's hidden secret that he LIKED girls -- with a challenge to hide something on our layout, cards or projects. Here's her layout:
On What's New Wednesday, Cassy urged us to "Express Yourself" (remember that Madonna song?) and to include a Polaroid-style frame on our project. Here's what Cassy made:
Remember the "mix tapes" we made of our favorite music during the '80's? Annie paid tribute to those by challenging us to use at least two washi tapes on our projects. Here's her example:
Annette brought us Friday's Focus, in which she recalled the plastic "jelly bracelets" that were popular in the 80's. She challenged us to use several rings -- NOT circles -- on our projects. Here is her example:
We ended the week with Sunday's Inspiration, brought to us by Lisa and the movie "Pretty in Pink". She asked us to use black, white, and ... what else? ... PINK in our creation. Here is her layout:
To join us for our look back at the '80's, come to the Cookin' Up Creations forum! You will find a new Blue Plate Special challenge each day; and if you complete at least 15 of the October challenges by November 3, your name will be entered into the "Dessert Tray" prize drawing!
So .... put on your leg warmers and your head band, crank up your Walkman and come on over! Like, totally, for real .....

Make Up Monday 10/01
Happy
October 1st everyone! Can you
believe how fast September went? We had
some great challenges to finish out the month.
Here is the recap.
Tuesday 9/25
Annie
challenged us to create a project based on Blue Skies. I would like you to feature a a family member
or yourself enjoying the blue skies. I would also like you to create 1 or 2
small embellishment clusters, do some layering using 2 or more pattern papers,
and stamp your title.
Wednesday 9/26
Scrappyjo challenged us to use 3
"found" items... They can be anything from nature or from your junk
drawer...I am not picky, I just ask that they not be actual scrapbook
supplies...think outside the box here...
Thursday 9/27
Sandy challenged us to to use those small
embellishments you have. You know, mini brads, eyelets, pearls, rhinestones,
etc. I would love for your "bugs" to be smaller than 1/2" but if
you have to use something a bit bigger please make sure they are no bigger than
an inch.Anything will count that would normally count as embellishments, except
alphabets
Friday 9/28
Barb challenged us to you to use CIRCLES and the color
YELLOW on your project.
Saturday 9/29
Annette provided us with this great sketch and
challenged us to make it about outdoor sports.
Sunday 9/30
Tamara challenged us my challenge to you today is to
use photos of an outdoor activity and use at least three different punches. I
used a triangle punch for the banner, a new flower wheel punch and my
journaling block notebook punch.
If you loved the 80’s like us don’t forget to check
out our challenges this month. They’re
totally awesome!
