2. By featuring family members in and amongst the trees.

Here is my sample

Make Up Monday 5/6

Spring into Summer kicked off this week at Cookin Up Creations.  We had a week of great challenges.  Here is a recap of those challenges

What's New Wednesday-5-1/13- Shades of Blue

Annie challenged us to:

For this challenge I would like you to be inspired by the beautiful shades of blue skies we love so much. Shades of Blue are so trendy right now. From the dark Navy to the lightest pale Teal blue.

So for the what's new part of the challenge - Let's look at what is trendy right now - like layers, ombre, journal cards/spots, tags, vellum, stitching (machine/hand), stamping, cameras, cutout (title or backgrounds), even rub-ons (are making a big comeback), misting/droplets, watercolor (with watercolor paints or mists), and flairs.

I would love for you to create a project using shades of BLUE and 1 or more of the What is Trendy mentioned above.

Toss Up Thursday 05/02/2013 -- Paint!

Barb challenged us to:
Today, my challenge is to use paint in some way on your project. If you mix two colors to make a new one, or mix your paint with white to make it lighter or tone it down, so much the better. Get creative -- spray it, fling it from the end of a brush, drip it .... just have fun with it!

Friday Focus 5.3.13 Wire

Tamara challenged us to:
o when I first heard we were going to do Spring, guess what I thought of? Yup an actual Spring and out came the wire. Today we are going to focus on wire. I made my title out of colored wire. Twisted strands of wire together on the strip of pattern paper at the bottom. Then what would the gorilla be without wire springs popping out? Use your creativity and let's see some wire on those projects.

Sketchy Saturday 5-4
Alterdiva challenged us to:
Today's challenge revolves around the change from Spring to Summer. I am re-using (yep I said it) re-using a sketch that I have previously used before. I loved it so much that I re-purposed it! And the challenge involves using a little Spring and a little Summer. I want you to create a layout that involves some elements of both. In my layout, I used a pastel background and patterned papers with a summer photo and summery weather themed chipboard! To re-use the sketch, I simply angled the layout itself! Hope you like!

Sunday Inspiration 5/5
I challenged you to:
I love this time of year...the flowers are blooming and color is everywhere. Mother's Day is fast approaching so I challenge you to be inspired by flowers, color, and mom and create a layout or 2 cards.

Don't forget to upload your creations for a chance to win this month's prize. Be sure to check out this week's new challenges!

Make up Monday - Wrapping up April

Good Monday morning everyone!  This is the last Make up Monday for April and we are wrapping things up with several clever ways to spice up your projects!

For Technique Tuesday last week, Michelle wanted us to be inspired by topographical maps as she was in this really unique layout!
In What's New Wednesday, Jo took us to Mexico.  She wanted us to use this photograph for inspiration and to use banners on our layouts.
And here is her sample:
And finally to wrap up April in a neat little package, Jan took us to Burano with inspiration from this amazing photo:

And she wants us to use an item that Burano is famous for - lace.  No lace, enhance your layout with a little vellum as she did here:
And that wraps up our monthly challenges for April.  Join us also in May for some Spring themed inspiration!!!

This week I chose this lovely layout by ANNIE C. as the Layout of the Week:

The details that caught my attention were the color combinations, the beautiful wings and heart in her background, and her title work. It all adds up to one fantastic layout!

This is just one of many beautiful layouts by Annie. Please visit her gallery at Cookin' Up Creations and leave her some compliments!

Layout of the Week -- 04/17/2013

I have the pleasure of choosing this week's Layout of the Week, and I've chosen this layout by Cookin' Up Creations newcomer RESA!

I loved her sunny yellow and cool turquoise color combination; her great collection of borders; her use of the circles and her choices of patterned paper. I also liked her arrangement of photos in a film strip style. What a beautiful and eye-catching layout!

Please visit the Cookin' Up Creations gallery to leave Resa some love; and do check out her entire gallery of work. Awesome!

If you haven't checked out our Blue Plate Special challenges already, come on over to the Cookin' Up Creations forum! Our April theme is "Around the World in 30 Days" -- we're finding inspiration in places all over the world. Resa created the layout above for a challenge inspired by the sun, sand and water of the Caribbean island of St. Croix. For every April challenge that you complete, your name goes into the drawing for our April "Dessert Tray" prize. So grab your suitcase, your passport and your traveling shoes, and come on over!

Make Up Monday 4/15/2013

We hope you are enjoying our trip around the world...

This past Tuesday we were challenged to use the technique of using the negative of a diecut by Tammy...and here is her amazing layout!!

On Wednesday, Annie asked us to have fun with the British invasion and use something from Britain as our inspiration...plus use the following elements on our project:
Pop something up (photo(s), lettering, embellishments, etc).
Do some misting or droplets
Use some Washi tape
Use some wood veneers
Hand stitching
Mix Title letters.
Here is her British inspired layout...

On Thursday, Barb took us to Hong Kong and because outdoor dining is very popular in Hong Kong, to use a photo or image that has something to do with eating outside. (It can be a barbecue, your kids eating popsicles on the porch, anything that involves eating outdoors). AND .... Because Hong Kong has a tropical climate,  use colors that remind you of the tropics.
Here is her wonderful layout...

For Friday's Focus, Tamara asked us to use a world on our layout...here is her layout which includes the cutest globe in the title!!

On Saturday, Cassy was inspired by the maps that help us get places...and gave us this sketch to work with...
And didn't she do a great job with it??

And on Sunday, Michelle gave us photos from Bavaria, Germany and asked us to use them as the inspiration for our projects...
Here is her layout featuring a local German town near her...

Keep checking back for more inspiration as we continue our trip around the world...

Bon Voyage!!!
