Make Up Monday 5-28-2012

We have had some great TV themed challenges this month and this past week was no exception...

On Technique Tuesday, Jeannie told us she loves the show "Who do you think you are" and asked us to take an old embellishment and make it new again.
(sorry...no example available)

On What's new Wednesday, Sandy shared her favorite new show "Person of Interest"   She shared her great layout and asked us to use both numbers on our layout and a new embellishment.

For Toss Up Thursday, Amy used "that 70's Show" as her inspiration and asked us to dig out some photos from the 70's and combine them with some fussy cutting for our layouts and cards.  Here is her  great example:

On Friday, Jan focused on Grey....Grey's Anatomy that is....  She asked us to use grey on our layouts or cards...

For Saturday's Sketch, Tammy used a sketch from Susan Stringfellow

and reminded us of the show "Wings"  She asked us to use mini brads and some type of "flying" word in the title.

And Sunday's Inspiration came from "Big Bang Theory".  Rebecca asked us to use a BIG title...

Have fun with these challenges and remember that 1 layout, 2 cards or 4 ATC's will count towards this month's dessert!!!

LOTW 5/23/12 {Kimberly}

This week I am choosing Kimberly's LO titled "Mom's Kitchen" as LOTW. I absolutely LOVE the whole idea behind this LO. It features photos of the little details of "Mom's Kitchen". It's really an idea I would love to lift.

Don't you just love the whole concept of this LO.  That mixed with all the elements on this LO is why I chose this LO for LOTW.

Make Up Monday -- May 21, 2012

We're back on the Cookin' Up Scrapbooking Creations forum -- come on over and join us! We just completed a full week of great Blue Plate Specials challenges. Our theme this month is "Pass the Remote" with inspiration from our favorite television shows, stars and theme songs.

We started off on Tuesday with Amy and "NCIS". Since the forensics experts use fingerprinting to figure out whodunit, Amy challenged us to use our fingers to paint on our projects. Here is her layout, using her fingers to apply gesso:

On Wednesday, Jan honored all of the masked heroes of television -- Batman, Zorro and the rest -- with her challenge to use a mask of some kind. For her example, she used a doily as a mask and applied mists to her background:

On Thursday, Jo drew inspiration from ""The Next Great Artist ... Work of Art" and challenged us to create our own altered work of art, or to use a piece of art in some way as inspiration. Here is her own work of art, an altered canvas:

On Friday, Rebecca focused on the show "DIY" and challenged us to use homemade embellishments on our creations. Here is her layout, using only embellishments she created herself:

Tamara' Sketchy Saturday challenge featured a Pencillines sketch. She honored Granny on "The Beverly Hillbillies" by asking us to use a photo of a grandmother on our work. Here is her layout, featuring a photo of herself as "grandma":

Bev finished the week on Sunday with a lovely color palette, inspired by the children's show "Big Bugs Band". She also asked us to use a baby, child, family member or pet on our layout. Here is her example:

Completing just ONE challenge this month  will get you an entry into the Dessert Tray prize drawing -- and the deadline isn't until June 2. What are we playing for? A gift certificate to YOUR favorite online store! So come on over and join in the fun!

In June, Cookin' Up Creations will celebrate our THIRD birthday with a month-long Birthday Bash. Every day there will be a new challenge, as well as games and other fun. The party starts June 1!

LOTW~  May 16, 2012

This so jumped out at me in the gallery this morning. I love the date banner, the clean space and all the gadgets, i.e. robot and gears. A nice complementary layout.

Congrats to SANDY!!

Make Up Monday 5/14

Welcome back to Make Up Monday...the place where you can catch up on the week gone by.

Tuesday Rebbecca took us to the TV show Myth Busters and challenged us to use stickers. Here is her fun LO featuring the guys in her life and a tater gun....Yes, Rebecca, they are illegal...at least in populated areas.
(my son knows from experience)

Wednesday Jeannie gave us a sketchy challenge with the clever twist of creating a double title using any two tv shows. Here's her LO.

Thursday Bev took us to Vegas and challenged us to use shapes.  Love her combination!

Friday brought us the TV show Tool Time and Sandy challenged us to use RED and to use something that would represnt something Mechanical.  Cute cards!

Saturday Barb gave us a sketch to follow and challenged us to celebrate our moms and make them "Queen for a Day."

Sunday Tammy gave us a cute LO and challenged us to the Facts of Life....to create a paper project dealing with something from daily life.

Thanks, Ladies, for some great challenges and projects!

Layout of the Week

Well since the website is back up and functioning to at least 90%, I thought I'd go ahead and pick a layout for this weeks Layout of the Week.
I chose this layout by Barb as it really jumped out at me in the gallery. So cute, and Hamish is just as cute (cuter actually)....As I'm typing this, I'm literally saying ahhh!! Great layout Barb - Congratulations, and I can't wait to see more layouts with your newest grandson!

Myth Busters! Technique Tuesday!

My family LOVES Myth Busters!!  Jamie and Adam would fit right in at our dinner table!  Even I would feel comfortable having them, I feel like they are old friends.  It was in fact at the dinner table a couple of Sundays ago that the subject of "tater guns" came up!  My boys just don't shoot little tater guns, no siree!  After a trip to Home Depot for PVC pipe, Walmart for the cheapest hairspray (gives the most bang for the buck!) and taters, it was back home and in shop to come up with this Big Gun!  By the Way, the taters that came out of this gun went so far that we never saw any of them land!  (I wonder if there is a law against this somewhere?)

I used sketch #210 from Nuts About Sketches to show our own little Myth Busters...Gosh I love these boys!  (That is my husband and sons.)  Sometimes Adam and Jamie (and my boys!) can get into some sticky situations so my challenge to you is to use Stickers today!  And to stay with the theme of Tec Tuesday I would like you to either layer something on them like I did with the date or to write on at least one of them.  So please use at least THREE stickers and either layer or write on at least one of them.  I'm looking forward to seeing your layout, if you do a double layout and each side has the required elements it counts as two!  You can also do either two cards or four atc.  Please point out where your stickers are on the page if they aren't easily identified!  So let's go girls!

Monday Make- up!

Welcome to Make-up Monday 5.7.12

This week we had some fabulous projects to keep us busy while we wait for the forum to return. We are sponsoring TV shows in our Pass the Remote May Challenges.  Look what your DT has whipped up for you.
Tuesday's Technique was brought to you by Sandy who taught us how to turn these beautiful circles into fabulous cards.  Sesame Street was the inspiration for this project.

Wednesday Barb challenge us to use a baby on our project. Inspired by the TV show "Up all night!"

On Thursday we visited  Dancing with the Stars when Jan challenged us to use stars on our project.

Friday we focused on Decorative tape as Patti shared with us The Mickey Mouse Club show.  I just purchased some of this tape on my Shop Hop stop this weekend.  Love the Mickey stuff!

The Learning Channel is the TV inspiration for this weeks Sketchy Saturday.  Choose an Elsie sketch posted on the blog and create a great layout.
Sundays Inspiration was brought to us by Jo and Three's Company.  Create a layout by using something from the Threes Company picture on the blog.

Looks like I have some catching up to do!  Here's hoping you will get some inpirations from this weeks challenges as well.  Happy Monday!!

Inspirational Sunday 5-6-2012

Today's challenge comes from a crazy sitcom called  Three's Company from the late 70's and early 80's.   I found a show poster that served as my inspiration for this layout:

Here is the poster....doesn't that bring back memories???  Okay, I know some of you are too young to remember it but maybe you have seen reruns!!!

The challenge is to use something from the photo as your inspiration...the colors, the word Three, his tux, etc.   as the basis of your layout or project.  I used the 3 and the color red in my layout...plus I also have 2 girls and a boy so that went too!!

Remember... one layout, 2 cards or 4 ATC's will count toward this challenge.

Oh...and one last thing.  I apologize to all of you who will now have that silly theme song going through your mind all day!!!

Enjoy!
Jo

Sketchy Saturday

So sorry I'm late posting this.....but I just found out my schedule for this month day before yesterday & so I'm a tad behind. But, 'Better Late Than Never' as the saying goes.

Since today is 'Sketchy Saturday' I decided that I was going to use one of the sketches by Elsie. I love her funky & fun sketches! You can click HERE if you want to see this a bit bigger. I chose to use sketch number 3 for my layout, but I'm feeling mighty generous right now & I will let you choose any one of these 28 sketches. Just please tell us which one you chose. ;-)

Now for my TV connection. Again, I'm going kind of 'Broad' here......I want you to use The Learning Channel (TLC) as your inspiration. Whether you are inspired by a particular show....something you LEARNED from watching a show....or maybe like me.....maybe you had the opportunity to meet/see some of the TV personalities in person. We had the opportunity to hear Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar from the TLC show '19 Kids & Counting' when they came to speak at Liberty University's convocation back in October. They had their 5 oldest daughters with them & they played their violins for us. Afterwards, we stood in line for 2 1/2 hours to meet them, get their autographs & take pictures with them. They are an amazing family...such an inspiration!

Friday's Focus---All Taped Up---5/4/12

Good Morning!  Today's focus is on decorative tapes...also known as tissue, paper, washi, or deco tape. Some of you just participated in a tape swap at Cookin' Up Creations so I can't wait to see your tapes.  I came across this tutorial a few weeks back and since then have fallen in love with the Dill kids plus their mama is one talented lady. http://www.nobigdill.com/2010/07/cddvd-pocketcozyenvelope-or-what-have.html

Our TV show for today is the Mickey Mouse Club.  Check out this video for some ideas on creating your project for today's challenge.
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/2471873/mickey_mouse_club_tv_opening_theme_b_w_version/

Here's my LO

plus a pocket made from the tutorial...I varied the size.  I used the Mickey print tape along with the black & white polka dot one one my LO plus I made a journaling folder using a third tape.  Don't have tape..color masking tape, make your own  (please google for tutorial)....be creative!

Today's challenge is to create a LO or two cards/mini LOs or 4 ATCs using something from the theme song of the Mickey Mouse Club.  It could be Mickey himself or banners (raise the banner high) or maybe musical instruments...you get the idea.  Use some type of tape on your project.  Have fun.  Please post back to this blog until the site is up and running again.
Thanks!

Here is my layout of the newest member to the Mosier household.

May 2 -- What's New Wednesday

Good morning!

Today's Blue Plate Special challenge is inspired by the show "Up All Night". This NBC sitcom was created by Emily Spivey about her experiences returning to work on Saturday Night Live after giving birth to her son.

For today's challenge, since it's "What's NEW Wednesday", I want you to feature a baby on your project. It can be your child, grandchild, or other human baby; or it can be a furbaby. If you regard your new car as your "baby", then feature that.

Here's my baby layout:

Remember -- to complete this challenge you must create one layout (8.5x11 or 12x12), TWO small pages (5x7, 6x6 or 8x8) TWO cards, or FOUR artist trading cards. Please link them to this blogpost or the Facebook post. (After the forum and gallery are back up and running, you may post them there.)

Happy scrapping!

May 1st Technique Tuesday

Good morning all of you party people.  Since the Message board and gallery are still being worked on, we will be posting our daily challenges here on the blog.  This will allow you guys to have time to work on them while the board is being fixed .  And since you won't be getting side tracked by cruising the MB, you should have plenty of scrappy time on your hands.

This month our theme is "Pass the Remote".  All of our challenges will be based on television shows in on way or another.  Today's Technique Tuesday is brought to you by Sesame Street.
Now you may be wondering why on earth I am using Sesame Street as my inspiration for this challenge.  Well it would be because we are using circle today.  But now just any old circle.  Today we will be making this fun circles that have quickly because one of my favorite new techniques for adding a little depth to your project:

I love how you can make these circles in any size and they are all just wonderfully fun to work with.
Now don't fret if you have no clue on how to do it...that's what I'm here for.

The first step is to gather your supplies.  You need double sided paper, a circle cutter or punch, and something to help score and fold some of the circles.  Oh and ink is optional, but I love that it helps add depth to the circles.

Next you need to cut out twice as many circles as you want on your project.  On the card on the right I wanted 12 circles so I had to cut out 24 in all:
Next, we want to get messy so I inked all the edges:
After that, I started scoring my lines on half the circles.  Because I used two different patterned papers on the first card, I scored half the circles of each pattern.
Now, a little tip: where you score it depends on how big your circles are.  On my first card I used 1" circles so I needed to have a 3/4 inch in the center after my circle was scored and folded.  So I actually cut a 3/4" square out and used it as my guide on where to score.  However on the card on the left, I used 2" circles so I was able to use my scoring board and just score 1/4" on each side of the circle.  You may have to play around with some spare circles to figure out exactly where yours need to be scored.  After scoring and folding the edges of my circles I went back and inked those newly folded lines then adhered each scored circle on a non-folded circle:

After that, your circles are ready to use on a project.  I love the depth and dimension these circles create without all the added bulk and weight of some embellishments.

Don't forget that you must create 1 LO, 2 cards or 4 atc for this to count towards the monthly prize requirement.  Once the MB and gallery are back up in working condition don't forget to upload to the gallery and link in the proper post for this challenge (that I will post once it's all working again).  I can't wait to see what you create with these circles and I hope you love them as much as I do!

~Sandy~
